Once, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was travelling with companions. It had been few hours now and signs of fatigue were obvious on the faces of people with the caravan. They decided to stop at a point. Everybody stopped the camels and landed, prior to anything they all started the search of water in order to offer prayer.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also joined them in search for water. But soon, returned to His camel, without saying anything to anyone. Everybody was surprised and thought that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) returned without any order to stop. Eyes and ears were awaiting His order. But the surprise of the group increased as they saw that He approached His camel, tied its knees, and returned back in search of water.
Everybody in the caravan said:
“O Prophet of Allah! Why didn’t you order us to do this for you, and instead you put yourself in discomfort? We would have proudly done that service for you.”
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Never seek others’ help in your affairs, don’t lean on others, even if it is a small piece of Miswak (the wood used for brushing teeth).”
