Allāh ﷻ says
إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى ٱللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ ٱلْعُلَمَٰٓؤُا۟ ۗ
It is only those who have knowledge among His servants that fear Allah
[35:28]
Meaning, only those who have knowledge truly fear Him as He should be feared, because the more they know about the Almighty, All-Powerful, All-Knowing Who Has the most perfect attributes and is described with the most beautiful Names, the more they will fear Him.
Sa’id Ibn Jubayr said “Fear is what stands between you and Disobeying Allah.”
The entire inheritance of Prophet ﷺ is knowledge.
As Allāh ﷻ says
إِنَّآ أَعْطَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْكَوْثَرَ
Surely we have given you the Abundance.
[108:1]
One possible meaning is that it is Al Kawthar of Jannah. And another is an Abundance in knowledge!
And in the last Ayah Allāh ﷻ says
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ ٱلْأَبْتَرُ
Surely your enemy is cut off.
[108:3]
The Kuffar would mock Muhammad ﷺ at the death of his two infant sons, by saying Abtar! Abtar! Now nobody remembers them.
While so many people have heard of Islam and learned it and carried forth the inheritance of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The Importance of seeking knowledge is so High!
As Prophet ﷺ said “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 224]
Meaning its Fardh.
And in another Hadith
“Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allāh will make easy for him a path to Paradise.”
[Sahih Muslim 2699]
Imagine!
Those people who have mastered the Qur’an and its Qira’ath and its Tafaseer,
And the Aalims and the Tullab al ‘Ilm will be raised amongst themselves and they will surely be of those who are successful!
We all busy ourselves with the knowledge of this Dunya and useless knowledge of the people, while we neglect the ultimate knowledge that will grant us the ultimate success!
So why do we not pursue the important knowledge?
Why do we feel it isn’t important?
Because it won’t put money in our pockets?
Because the opposite gender won’t adore you?
Because the people will shun you?
If you could see the status of the Ulema (scholars) with Allāh, you would spend all your beloved wealth and give your children in the path of Knowledge of Islam and we would crawl to the masjid if we were made to do so.
May Allāh ﷻ grant us knowledge that is beneficial and protect us from ignorance.
