REMEMBER AND FEAR THE FIRE

Save Yourselves From Hellfire

The Prophet ﷺ stood upon his Minbar and he started to call out and say whilst he was crying,
“I warn you of the fire! I warn you of the fire! I warn you of the fire!”
His voice rose, until the people of the marketplace heard him, and his cloak had fallen from his shoulders.
[تخريج مشكاة المصابيح 5615]
Allah ﷻ said
فَأَنذَرتُكُم نَارًا تَلَظَّى
So I warn you of a blazing fire.
[92:14]
And Allah ﷻ said
فَبَعَثَ اللهُ النَّبِيينَ مُبَشِّرِينَ وَ مُنذِرِين
So Allah sent prophets, as bringers of glad tidings and as warners.
[2:213]
The Prophet ﷺ would even warn on the day of Eid about the fire! The day of festivity and happiness!
The Prophet ﷺ also said
اتقوا النار و لو بشق تمرة، فمن لم يجد فبكلمة طيبة
Fear the fire even by half a date, and whoever doesn’t find it then with a good word.
[Sahih al-Bukhari 6195, Sahih Muslim 1016]
In another Hadeeth,
He ﷺ said .
“Indeed my example and the example of my Ummah are like the example of a man who has kindled a fire, so the flies and moths started to fly into it, and he tries to stop them, so I am seizing you by your waists away from the fire, whilst you are rushing headfirst into it”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 6483]
In a longer Hadeeth in which the Prophet ﷺ warned the clans of Quraysh about the Fire,
He included
Oh Fatimah bint Muhammad! Save yourself from the fire!
He would warn his own daughter!
Malik ibn Dinaar used to say
“If I could, I would call out from the minarets of Basra at night: ‘The Fire, The Fire!’
Then he said “If I could find people to help me, I would send them to all of the Minarets in the world [to call out]: ‘Oh People! The fire! The fire!’
This was their attitude to the hellfire, warning and warning and warning and not forgetting!
While we turn away, pretending not to hear!
Ponder over this statement of
Sufyaan ibn Uyaynah رحمه الله
خلق الله النار رحمة يخوف بها عباده لينتهوا
Allah created the fire as a mercy by which he frightens his slaves so that they cease from sin.
Don’t get drunk on excessive hope and forget to fear Allah!
May Allah ﷻ forgive us for our lack of fear in His punishment and anger and forgive us for our lack of enthusiasm towards His Jannah and pleasure and make us among the righteous and the people of Firdous.
