🧕🏼: As salam aleykum Patience, what happens to a good Muslim in the grave when they die?
🧕🏾: Wa aleykum as Salam sis, there is a trial of the grave, which is the first stage after death. When a person is buried, and the people walk away, the deceased hears their footsteps. At that moment, two angels will come and sit him up. His soul will return to his body, marking the beginning of the Barzakh, which is the life between this world and the Hereafter. This reality is not like our current life and is only truly known to Allah.
🧕🏼: What happens next?
🧕🏾: The angels will ask three key questions: ‘Who is your Lord? What is your Religion? Who is your Prophet?’ For the believer, who died with true faith, the answers will be clear. He will say, ‘My Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam, and my Prophet is Muhammad (ﷺ).’ Allah promises this firmness of faith in the Qur’an: “Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills (Ibrahim 14:27).
🧕🏼: And what is the reward for the believer?
🧕🏾: After answering correctly, it will be said to him, ‘My servant has spoken truthfully!’ Then, his grave will be expanded as far as the eye can see, and he will be shown his place in Paradise. A door to Jannah will be opened, and the fragrance and breeze of Paradise will come to him. He will then say, ‘O my Lord! Establish the Hour, so I may return to my family and my property.’ This is based on the hadith from Musnad Ahmad, which was declared authentic by Al-Albāni.
🧕🏼: SubhanAllah! What a great reward.
🧕🏾: “Yes, and this is why it’s crucial to live and die upon true faith. Those who die as true believers will be honored, and Allah will grant them ease in the grave.
