RAMADĀN AND WOMEN
EPISODE 1️⃣: INTRODUCTION
Ramadān is a month of blessings where everyone seeks to improve their spirituality and attain the utmost goal at Taqwa.
Allāh (ﷻ) says in the Quran:
يَٰأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was for those before you so perhaps you will become mindful of Allāh.
[Al Baqarah, 2:183].
Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said; “whoever fasts the month of Ramadān with faith and seeking reward from Allāh will have his past sins forgiven.”
[Sahih bukhari Hadith no 226]
In another report, he said: “whoever prays the nights of Ramadān with faith and seeking reward from his Lord will have his past sins forgiven. Whoever passes Laylatul Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking reward from his Lord will have his past sins forgiven.”
[Sunan an Nasai Hadith no 2200]
Subhanallāh! May Allāh (ﷻ) make it easy for us to be amongst those that have their sins forgiven. Ameen
However, situations arise where we are exempted from fasting or we are not obliged to fast and we cannot perform certain acts of worship eg Salah. Such among these situations are those in which a woman could find herself.
In the upcoming episodes we will discourse the various scenarios women go through and the rulings pertaining to fasting in these varying situations.
May Allāh (ﷻ) make it easy for us to say and act upon that which is right. Ameen.
آمين يا رب العالمين
