The mastermind and one of the main accused of the Batadrava police station torching case died in a road accident on Sunday night. The accused, identified as Ashiqul Islam, allegedly encouraged and mobilised the mob to set ablaze the Batadrava police station in Assam on May 21.
On Sunday night, police were reportedly returning to Nagaon with Ashiqul Islam in their custody after conducting a search operation at his residence at Sonaibari village in Juria district. Islam tried to escape from police custody by jumping off the police vehicle in which he was travelling.
Islam was reportedly hit by another police vehicle when he jumped from the vehicle, following which he was shifted to a civil hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The incident took place in the Raidongia area in Nagaon.
The Assam Police had arrested Islam from his residence on Sunday night. Police also seized a .22 pistol and a 7.65 mm pistol along with seven rounds of bullets from his house.
