Kuala Lumpur: A strange trend is being witnessed among Muslims in Malaysia, in which young people are seen offering prayers with a fan. Videos of namaz with fans are also being posted on YouTube by people. Darsal, the misconception has been spread by some people on social media platforms that people, especially unmarried people, should offer prayers with a table fan as the life partner of their dreams. Malaysia's Minister for Religious Affairs Datuk Idris Ahmed has urged people to complain to religious authorities against those who do so.
The Mufti of Georgetown Penang has also warned such people not to deliberately disrespect Islam, they will be punished under sharia. According to a report, Mufti Datuk Seri Van Salim Van Mohammad Noori has said that it is clear from the actions of the people that they are deliberately disrespecting and despising Islam. "The authorities need to investigate whether the person who committed this crime is a sensible person, suffering from mental problems or something else. I hope the authorities will investigate immediately and take action according to whatever is known.
In a statement, he said, "If the offender is found to be deliberately ridiculing the religion, he should be tried in a Sharia court and punished accordingly." He said that namazing a fan with him as a companion of his dreams is an insult to Islam and making fun of Islam is clearly a big sin. This can hurt the sentiments of any Muslim. Mufti further said in her statement that if the criminal insults the prayers, he will be treated out of Islam and he will have to repent for what he has done.
Earlier, Minister for Religious Affairs Datuk Idris Ahmed had requested the people to complain to religious authorities against those who committed such acts. According to the report, the minister said, "I instruct such people to first take the education of religion, take the help of a cleric or take part in the prayers of mosques." The actions of the people who use fans while offering prayers show that they do not know anything about Islam."
