Good article. very true.
Muslims have been involved in many incidents that have been catastrophic to partial or non-muslim countries and societies. Of course, they’re going to face more scrutiny and negative media coverage.
Not disputing their findings but this negativity spans four western countries’ publications including the UK, Canada, Australia and the U.S. – So why doesn’t the headline reflect it in that manner?
“We found overwhelmingly negative coverage, not only in the United States but also in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. …we were also interested in coverage across countries. To find out,
we collected 528,444 articles mentioning Muslims or Islam from the same time period from a range of newspapers in the UK, Canada and Australia.
We found that the proportion of negative to positive articles in these countries was almost exactly the same as that in the United States.”
Atheists have been involved in many incidents that have been catastrophic to partial or non-atheist countries and societies. Of course, they’re going to face more scrutiny and negative media coverage.
Is it really surprising? White Americans like to spread their racial hatred to all non-white people.
Muslims have been involved in many incidents that have been catastrophic to partial or non-muslim countries and societies.
So as other religions. Jews are persecuting Palestinians. Hindus are persecuting Kashmiris. Christians were involved in both WW1 and WW2. Don’t forget about the recent wars, e.g., Ukraine, Syria, Bosnia, Chechniya, Iraq, Afghanistan etc were all started by Christians. Buddhists are persecuting Rohingya Muslims. Communists are persecuting Ughyurs.
Oh wait! most of the persecuted people are Muslims. Still, the Muslims are to be blamed!

It wasn’t Muslims who shot up a supermarket in a Black neighborhood, or went to an elementary school and murdered children in the US this past week. It was home grown cis white male terrorists.
It’s not only Muslims, or even mostly Muslims, that are in the news headlines in the US for mass shootings or other horrific crimes. And when those people comitting those crimes do happen to be Muslim, the crime has nothing whatsoever to do with their religion or ethnicity. On the other hand, when white cis men tear things up, it has everything to do with their white male fragility.
Poor put-uponwhite males, emasculated by the existence of women, LGBTQIA, and minorities; their egos down in the dirt, so that they have to go murder some women or gays or children to feel better.
Amazing, but not shocking that this ridiculous article fails to mention 9/11, 7/11, and the Bali nightclub terrorist attacks, and the 30000 Islamic terrorist attacks around the world since 9/11 as to why Muslims are not portrayed in a touchy-feely way.
It wasn’t Muslims who shot up a supermarket in a Black neighborhood, or went to an elementary school and murdered children in the US this past week. It was home grown cis white male terrorists.
Salvador Rolando Ramos was not “white” and certainly not “cis”. He was Latino and gay.
Is it really surprising? White Americans like to spread their racial hatred to all non-white people.
Examples, please.
Opinions shift over time. America’s second President John Adams wrote the following:
“But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?”
Consider that when that was written the Inquisition was still going on and “infidels” and “heretics”, meaning anyone who was not Catholic, were being punished on the Catherine Wheel. The many critics of Islam like to ignore the violent history of organized Christianity.
Examples, please.

Read the Old Testament to find out what take no prisoners religious violence looks like.

Oh!
Well, if the Atlantic says its so….
Lol!
Read the Old Testament to find out what take no prisoners religious violence looks like.
No thanks. That was 2000 years ago.
Id rather see what current religious violence looks like today.
Its a little more topical.

Yes, but that has nothing to do with Muslims (sadly) being negatively portrayed, that is not the fault of the media, that is the fault of how they see the world or particularly the West, how we live, the freedom that our women have, the religious rights, values and freedoms we share.
It’s not only Muslims, or even mostly Muslims, that are in the news headlines in the US for mass shootings or other horrific crimes. Ok, but that is not what the article is saying. When you look at some of the most violent and horrific tragedies worldwide it was predominately Muslims.
Poor put-uponwhite males,
What? It has nothing to do with White or any other color, relax.
emasculated by the existence of women, LGBTQIA, and minorities; their egos down in the dirt, so that they have to go murder some women or gays or children to feel better.
You are just off on a tangent today, huh?

ISIS has been killing Muslims as well as everybody else they could in the Syria-Iraq area. Al-Qaida itself has murdered Muslims. In the Iraqi Civil War after the fall of Saddam Hussein, fanatic Shiites and Sunnis were using car bombs on each others’ Muslim mosques, killing a lot of moderate Muslims. It was sickening.
ISIS members are not Muslims, they’re murderers and another ‘m’ word I won’t write here. Just like the IRA and Loyalist battalions of Northern Ireland are not Christians. And neither are the scummy militias that tried to overthrow the US in 2021.
Religions are religions and fanatics are fanatics. All religions have their true practitioners and their fanatical hateful selfish trash.
Keep your life lessons, abandon your Christian beliefs. One is real, the other isn’t.
Can’t have one without the other, Tiger.
Why not? Why would anyone with any sort of logic or reason believe in something that is clearly disprovable?
Do you still believe in Santa Claus?
History clearly shows that fortune smiles most sweetly on those who adhere to Judo-Christian culture and second place is not even close.
History even more clearly shows that fortune smiles most sweetly on those who adhere to the church of the flying spaghetti monster and second place christianity is so far behind that they pretend this church doesn’t exist when making the above comment.
Gambling is forbidden by the laws of several of the other 3000 or so Gods that you both don’t believe in.
and therefore not an issue that I struggle with.
Previous research has identified widespread negative media representations of Muslims. An overview of studies undertaken from 2000 to 2015 by communications scholars Saifuddin Ahmed and Jörg Matthes concluded that Muslims were negatively framed in the media and that Islam was frequently cast as a violent religion.
Not surprised at all what the “conclusion” from such studies would be.

Try spouting that LGBTQXYZ diatribe in someplace like, oh, Riyadh, and see how your image of Muslims might change.
