Question onThe Sunnah Prayers after Jumu’ah

🌹The Sunnah Prayers after Jumu’ah — Al-Imām Ibn Bāz

In the name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Question:

Is it allowed to pray voluntary prayers (nawāfil) immediately after the Jumu’ah Prayer?

Answer:

The Sunnah after Jumu’ah is to pray four rak’ahs. The Prophet (salallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever prays after Jumu’ah, let him pray four [rak’ahs].” [1] If you [therefore] pray after Jumu’ah, pray four rak’ahs, and the Sunnah is that he prays [the four] with two tasleems (i.e. two rak’ahs at a time] — and that is better.

And if he prays [the four altogether] with one only one tasleem [at the end] then that is sufficient. So four rak’ahs is best.

It is established from the Messenger (‎‎‬salallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that he would pray two rak’ahs Sunnah prayer in his house after Jumu’ah but what he instructed with carries more weight – and he instructed with four 4⃣ rak’ahs and his instruction is more emphatic.
