COMMERCIALISATION OF IBAADAH (WORSHIP)
Islam is the most perfect religion which makes things easy for its adherents.Allah says in suratu-l-baqorat Q2:185
“It is ease that Allah intends for you,He doesn’t intend difficulty”
I’tikaaf is an annual ibaadah during the last 10 days of Ramadan to search for the night of majesty (Lailatu-l-qadr).In some years back it was not as popular as it is today. Some elderly people and muslim youths have developed interest to partake in it with the intention to worship Allah and seek His pleasure, but they are being denied by some people who has turned it to money making venture.
I’tikaaf has been commercialised to the extent that some Islamic organizations are collecting exhorbitant fees as high as N80,200,N40,000.I learnt that an higher institution (named withheld) is collecting N35,000.Where do they want the students to get N35,000 for just 10 days? Where is the faith and Ikhlas?Do they want to kill lion or elephant for sahuur and Iftar?
The love for wealth has beclouded some Muslim activists that they cannot separate between the work of this world and the hereafter. They want to collect all their rewards in this world. Some Islamic scholars will be demanding N100,000 or N150,000 before they can accept to educate the Muslims.May Allah blessed our fathers, Sheikh Adam Al-Ilory, Sheikh Kamaldeen Al-Adaby,Sheikh Mustafa Zuglooh and others aamin. They sacrificed to spread the message of Islam with all what Allah has blessed them.Allah says in Q26:145″No reward do I ask of you,my reward is only from the Lord of the world”
What do we want to say on the book of Allah (Quran) given free and some will still be selling it.This is possible here in Nigeria where we use religion to deceive ourselves.
My fear is that a day will come when some people will stay at the entrance of the mosque to collect fees before we observe salat”Faliyausubillahi”
Let’s learn from the past Muslims who left their properties in Mecca and migrated to Medina to seek Allah’s pleasure in this world and the hereafter.
May Almighty Allah purify our intentions and make our feet firm on the path of righteousness aamin.
