Fatimoh Aderohunmu says:
Growing up as a child with a physical disability, I learned from an early age that my inner strength was my best friend, and it had to be.
I somehow knew that if I was going to succeed in life and achieve my life goals, my inner strength was going to be my best tool.
As we all know life has many ups and downs and believe me when I say that I have had my fair share of ups and downs.
However, I believe that we need to have the downs so that we can truly appreciate the ups that we have.
So I want to thank the school bullies who put me down every day with their sharp words designed to cut me down to my very soul.
I also want to thank those neighbors and friends who chose to discriminate against me.
I also want to thank those suitors who dumped me because they saw my disability as my biggest “flaw.”
Thank you for making me realize my inner strength.
Thank you for giving me the drive to prove you wrong.
I will be forever grateful, and I will be forever strong because of you, but also despite you.
Speaking as a person with disabilities- we are worthy of celebration- love and support- we all have our own super powers- whether our disabilities are physical, learning, hearing impairment, visual impairment.
We are all beautiful in different ways. Every single one of us.
