بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِIn the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful [1:1]
The most appropriate and reasonable answer to such a question will have to consist a detailed explanation both from logical as well as a religious perspective. One of the major reasons why a person should repent is fearing the torment and wrath of Allah. We shiver and get goosebumps when we receive a threat from some mafia gang or from some goons and etc, but surprisingly we ignorantly overlook the punishment of someone who is the Most powerful and Most mighty, there is no strength and might except with Allah. However we don’t have sufficient room for such a detailed answer in this blog post, therefore i will resort to quoting a few verses/hadeeth which; after reading shall suffice the questioner.
“And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimoon (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah)” [Hood 11:52]
Allaah says: {Except those who repent and believe (in Islaamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds; for those, Allaah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allaah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. And whosoever repents and does righteous good deeds; then verily, he repents towards Allaahwith true repentance.} [Surah al-Furqaan (25): 70-71]
‘Ataa reported from Mu’aadh bin Jabl that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: “(O people!) Keep your duty to Allaah and fear him as much as you can. And remember Allaah ?? ??? near every stone and tree (i.e. remember Allaah much). And if you committed a sin, follow it up with repentance – a secret (mistake to be repented) secretly; and an open (mistake to be repented) publicly.”
[Ref: Imaam Ahmad in “al-Zuhd” (26) and Tabaraanee in “al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer” (20/159/331).
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever continuously seeks Allah’s forgiveness, then Allah will make a way out for him from every hardship, from every anxiety, and will provide him with sustenance from where he does not expect.”
[Ref: Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Prayer, Number 1518, Hasan fil Matan]
Not only is it extremely easy to repent , but it is rewarding as well. For e.g, It is as easy as:
He (s.a.w) said “To feel remorse (i.e bad or guilty for one’s evil act) is (a form of) repentance.”
[Ref: Collected by Ibn Majah in his Sunan (no. 4234)]
#Duaa
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عَضُدِي ، وَأَنْتَ نَصِيرِي ، بِكَ أَجُولُ وَبِكَ أَصُولُ وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ
Translation
O Allah, You are my supporter and You are my helper, by You I move and by You I attack and by You I battle. Aameen
