Fasting serves as a tool for spiritual purification in several ways:
1.Self-Disciplie: Fasting instills in us a sense of self-discipline and self-control, as we voluntarily give up lawful pleasures during daylight hours. This discipline extends to our thoughts, words, and actions, helping us control negative emotions like anger, envy, and pride.
2. Empathy and Compassion: By experiencing hunger and thirst, we develop a profound sense of empathy for the less fortunate, thus purifying our hearts through increased compassion and generosity.
3. Detachment from Worldly Desires: Fasting allows us to detach ourselves from worldly desires and materialism, thus allowing us to focus on our spiritual growth and connection with Allah.
4.Increased Worship:Fasting provides the perfect environment for increased worship. The physical abstinence helps us clear our minds and hearts, allowing us to engage in more focused prayers, Quran recitation, and remembrance of Allah.
5. Seeking Forgiveness: Fasting serves as a means for seeking forgiveness for our sins. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven” (Bukhari).
6. Character Development: Fasting helps us cultivate good manners and moral virtues, as we strive to avoid not just food and drink, but also negative behaviors such as lying, backbiting, and quarreling.
It’s not just our bodies that benefit, but our souls too.”O Allah, I beg You for guidance, taqwā (piety), chastity and self- sufficiency.
Ramadan Mubarak
