✺ Anas bn Malik, may Allāh be pleased with him narrated:
« We went in with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ to visit Abū Saif, the blacksmith who was the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the Prophet’s son who died in infancy). The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ took Ibrahim, kissed him and smelt him. Later, we went in to visit him when Ibrahim was giving up his soul, and the eyes of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ began shedding tears, whereupon ʿAbdur-Raḥman bn ʿAwf said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allāh! You too weep?’ He ﷺ replied: ‘O Ibn ʿAwf! It is compassion’. Then he shed more tears and said: ‘The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, but we say only what pleases our Lord. Dear Ibrahim, indeed we are grieved by your departure.’»〘 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhari, No. 1303 〙
✺ Anas bn Malik, may Allāh be pleased with him also narrated:
« We witnessed the burial of one of the daughters of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and he was sitting by the side of the grave. And I saw his eyes shedding tears.»〘 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhari, No. 1285 〙
