Salaamun ‘alaykum wa rahmat-ul-lahi wa barakātuh
In the name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
🌹Why is Maryam the Mother of Jesus the only woman mentioned by name in the Qurān?
Imām Al Qurtubee (Died 671 H) said:
Allah the Exalted did not mention Any woman by name in His Book EXCEPT for Maryam the daughter of Imrān. He mentioned her name in about thirty places. As for the wisdom behind this, some of the scholars mentioned:
Verily the kings and those of nobility do not mention their wives in public, nor do they
openly state their names, rather they use for her a nickname attributing her by
marriage, or to her family, or to her children, and the likes. But when they mention their slaves they do not call them by nicknames and they do not preserve their names from mention, rather they openly say their names.
`Thus when the Christians said concerning Maryam and her son what they said (falsely saying she was the wife of Allah and Jesus was their son) Allah openly proclaimed her, by her name.
And He did not give her a nickname by way of motherhood, or servitude although
these are from her descriptions. And this speech is in line with the speech of the Arabs and how they mention their slaves. In addition to this, the belief that Jesus, peace be upon him, does not have a father is obligatory. Thus when his name is continuously repeated while being attached to his mother, the hearts will feel that which is obligatory upon them to believe from negating that he had a father and declaring his pure mother to be free from the statement of the Jews concerning her.
