🌹Five Possible Scenarios in Which a Person May Precede Ramadan with Fasting by a Day or Two
In the name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
🎙️Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih Al-‘Uthaymin
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
لا تقدموا رمضان يصوم يوم ولا يومين إلا رجل كان يصوم صوما فليصمه
“Do not precede Ramadan by fasting for a day or two days; except a man who normally does a (SUPEROGATORY) fast, let him fast it.”
`📌One: His habit is to fast on Monday and Thursday; so this Monday or Thursday happens to fall on a day or two before the entrance of Ramadan. We say: fast, and the prohibition does not apply to you.
📌Two: His habit is to fast three days every month. But, the days have passed until there does not remain except a day or two days left for him to fast the three days.
📌Three: He has to make up days from the previous Ramadan; he is to complete those days even if there does not remain a day or two days before Ramadan.
📌Four: A person has vowed to fast on the day that so and so comes; and the day that he comes is a day or two before Ramadan.
📌Five: His habit is to fast every other day. Thus, his day of fasting falls on a day or two before Ramadan.
📌In these cases there is no harm on the person fasting on the 29th or 30th of Sha’ban

May Allaah accept our ibaadat and forgive our shortcomings.
`اَللّٰهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ
O Allah, allow us to reach Ramadhan.`
