DUA WHILE IN PROSTRATION-SUJUD | DUA QUNUUT IN WITR
Seeking Refuge In Allah’s Pleasure from His Wrath
On the authority of Aisha who said: “One night I missed Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) from the bed, and when I sought him my hand touched the soles of his feet while he was in the state of sujood [prostration]; they (feet) were raised and he was saying:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ، وَبِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ، وأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ، لَا أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ، أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ
Allahumma inni ‘a’udhu biridhaaka min sakhatika, wa bi-mu’aafaatika min ‘uqoobatika, wa ‘a’udhu bika minka, laa ‘uhsee thanaa’an ‘alayka, ‘Anta kamaa ‘athnayta ‘alaa nafsik(a)
O Allah, I seek refuge in Your Pleasure from Your Wrath and in Your Pardon from Your Punishment. And I seek refuge in You from You. I cannot praise You as much as You deserve to be praised; You are [deserving of praise in the manner and magnitude] as You have praised Yourself.
[Narrated by Muslim 486, Abu Dawood 879, An-Nasa’i 169, Ibn Majah 3841. See Al-Albani, Sahih At-Tirmithi 3/180, Sahih Ibn Majah 1/194, and ‘Irwa’ul-Ghalil. 2/ 175]
Also this Dua can be made during Qunoot in Witr
On the authority of ‘Ali bin Abi Talib that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say at the end of Witr:
[Narrated by Abu Dawood 1427, At-Tirmidhi 3566, an-Nasa’i 1747, Ibn Majah 1179, classed as sahih by al-Albani in al-Irwa 430; Sahih Abi Dawud 1427]
Abu Dawood also said: It is reported that Ubayy Ibn Ka`b (رضي ابله عنه) used to recite the supplication (in the witr) in the second half of Ramadan. [Sunan Abu Dawood 1427]
Note: The Scholars differ over the meaning “at the end of his witr”; A number of Scholars say it is in the Dua al-Qunoot, some said while concluding the Dua al-Qunoot, some held the view that it is to be said at the end of Witr (after the taslīm) while some said just before the taslīm (salam), and some said during sujood; and this last view is supported by the hadith of Aisha – and all of this can be understood from the wording and all of these positions have been held by people of knowledge.
Allah knows best.
