EPISODE 3️⃣7️⃣: Praying two raka’ats before the fajr prayer has immense virtue

Before Fajr prayer, there is a Sunnah ratibah prayer (established Sunnah) which is two rak’ahs. This is the most firmly established of the Sunnah ratibah prayers.
The Prophet (ﷺ) never failed to offer this prayer, whether he was at home or travelling.
Aishah (رضي الله عنها) said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) did not adhere more firmly to any nawafil prayer than the two rak’ahs of Fajr.”
(Bukhari, 1163; Muslim, 724).
Concerning the virtue of the two rak`ahs before Fajr prayer, the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
عن النبي ﷺ قال: “ركعتا الفجر خير من الدنيا وما فيها”
(رواه مسلم)
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The two rak’ahs of Fajr are better than this world and everything in it.”
(Muslim, 725)
According to the Hanafi school of thought, the two sunna rak`ats before the obligatory Fajr prayer are a confirmed sunna, at the level of being necessary (wajib).
We understand that this was a prayer which was rarely missed by the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ), as indicated by his saying (ﷺ) regarding the pre-Fajr sunna prayer that it is “more beloved to me than the whole world.”

What to recite in the Sunnah prayer before Fajr

It is Sunnah to recite in these two rak’ahs al-Kafirun and al-Ikhlas , because Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) that “The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) recited in the two rak’ahs of Fajr: “Qul ya ayyuhal-kafirun” and “Qul huwa Allahu Ahad.”
