The Companion Who Was Promised Jannah

Allah ﷻ says

مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللَّهَ

Among the believing men, are those who stayed true to the covenant with Allah ﷻ.
[33:23]

Az Zubair Ibn Al Awwam رضي الله عنه.
We have talked about this companion of the Prophet ﷺ before.
He is among the 10 promised Jannah!

Prophet ﷺ said regarding him “Every Prophet عليه السلام has a disciple, and my Disciple is Az Zubair ibn Al Awwam.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 3514]

Why?
What did he do?

Imagine the young message of Islam, in its Infancy, Az Zubair رضي الله عنه learned of Islam while there were less than 10 muslims in Makkah, and he accepted quickly at the age of 15. He accepted Islam wholeheartedly, it showed when his uncles tortured him by wrapping him in a thick mat and suffocating him with smoke.
Yet he did not renounce his religion, rather his uncles broke in their resolve to bring him out of Islam.

It wasn’t Hamza or Abu Bakr or Ali or Uthmaan رضي الله عنهم who drew their sword for the sake of Allah ﷻ and his Rasool ﷺ first.
It was Az Zubair ibn Al Awwam رضي الله عنه.
Why?
He heard a rumour Prophet ﷺ was being attacked so he drew his sword and he ran to aid Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, no hesitation.
He found Prophet ﷺ and when asked what he was doing, he responded with “I heard you were being attacked so I came to kill the attacker” and Prophet ﷺ made Du’a for him.

Another example of his love for the Messenger ﷺ was when he heard a man mocking Prophet ﷺ, out of his Love and Zeal for His Prophet ﷺ, He Broke the mans arm.

Can you imagine, a boy of 15 standing upto a man, almost killing him for insulting Prophet ﷺ?

Reflect! What have we done so far in our lives for the sake of Allah ﷻ?

Don’t you know the status of Az Zubair on the battlefield? رضي الله عنه!
He was one of 2 men who could wield 2 swords in both hands and still fight without losing skill or power!

The other man was Khalid Ibn Walid رضي الله عنه!

Don’t you know that on the Battle of Badr, the first major Battle of Islam, the Battle of the truthful ones, Az Zubair رضي الله عنه wore a yellow turban, which made the enemies notice him very easily, such was his bravery.

Ask ourselves
Where are we compared to the likes of them?
