Your parents are very golden my dear. After the worship of Allah, do you know that the next is for you to be dutiful to your parents. In fact, you are very likely to earn His wrath if any of them is hurt by your actions and/or utterances (except when it’s to preach against the worship of others than Allah). But, do you ever take cognisance of this?
When you talk with your friends or opposite sex, who definitely have not and can never make sacrifice like that of your parents, you are mindful of your speech and choose your words with wisdom. Sometimes you are even disturbed simply because a friend is not happy with you but you bother not when your parents are displeased with you.
My dear, these parents have been serving you from when you were conceived. They gave you all you needed from when you couldn’t even utter any meaningful word. They spent all they had on you selflessly and still spending. Look around and see your mates roaming about the streets without any meaningful purpose. You attended (or still attending) one of the best schools, not because they are rich but because they wanted you to be even more successful than they are.
Your mum is still cooking for you, sweeping, washing even your plates while you recline on the chair watching movies, football matches or playing games all because you have grown up and can shout them down or even choose which of the chores you feel like doing and when to do them.
You are so worst that you even brag with your friends how you deal with your parents with harshness and they dare not reprimand you, else you threaten to leave the house.
Come to think of it my dear, do you wish your children treat you the way you are treating your parents?
People respect and love your parents for their exemplary lifestyle full of humility and righteousness. They are also surprised that such parents gave birth to their opposite (and that’s YOU).
Do you think you’re really hurting your parents with your nonchalant attitude? No! Far from it. They have done their best, they are indeed achievers in life. They married, gave birth, have an accommodation of their own and made good names for themselves.
If I may ask you, what exactly have you achieved? You’re probably enjoying the goodwill of your parents, so what will your own children enjoy from you now that you have refused to add value to your life.
Lastly for now, your parents do not need your money at all, all they need from you is to take your studies serious and have good grades. Let your teachers (both academic & religious) give them good reports about you. Let the neighbours always pray to have a child like you and not the other way round. This alone is enough for these parents than anything in this world.
My dear, I pray Allah make you see sense in this write-up and change you to be the coolness of the eyes of your parents as they expect.
To the parents, may your labour over your children never be in vain and may they be successful in your lifetime even beyond your expectation. Aamin
